Conference Art Show in the Spring. Keep in mind as you are working on projects in class that yours could be chosen to go to contest against other schools in our school's conference. If chosen, you will miss a day of school to attend the competition.
It is wise to check with the colleges or universities that you are interested in for scholarship opportunities too. They will often post them on their website.
We will work with you on portfolios. Keep working and you are bound to do great things!
Field Trip to Chicago for Advanced Art Students!
In March or April, every other year.
Advanced Art Students are given the opportunity to take a field trip to Chicago.
Below are some pictures from when Mrs. Hassebrock, Mrs. Renze, myself (Mrs. Wede), and 45 Ames High students visited the Field Museum and the Art Institute. It was a great trip, despite some unexpected twists. Transportation was a yellow school bus instead of a charter bus, but students made the most of it and enjoyed being able to talk across the aisle on the way there and back. On Wednesday, students explored the Field Museum, getting to see the T-Rex, Sue, and lots of other exciting exhibits. That evening, they got to do a little shopping and enjoyed swimming at the hotel. On Thursday, the group spent the morning and afternoon at the Art Institute. Students participated in a Scavenger Hunt at the Art Institute and captured some of the fun moments below. Students were given prizes for 1st and 2nd done and for most creative photos. Some referenced Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Students got to see a special exhibit on Van Gogh and Grant Wood's iconic American Gothic, along with lots of other great pieces. The students enjoyed lunch in some of the museum's cafes. Unfortunately, one student suffered an allergic reaction after eating a cupcake that was cross-contaminated with tree-nuts. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital. While he was being treated and monitored, the rest of the group got to extend their stay in Chicago with a fun trip to the Water-tower Place. The bus took them down the Magnificent Mile and they got to shop and eat dinner at the mall before we all headed home. Students returned to Ames High at about 2 am and despite everyone being very tired, the group had bonded and would go home with lots of good stories.
If you are an Advanced Art Student and interested in going on a field trip to Chicago, please talk with your art teacher.
